Abraham H. Feller was the first Principal Director and General Counsel in the Legal Department from 1946-1952. He reported to the Assistant Secretary-General of the Legal Department, Ivan Kerno.

Feller was a prominent legal scholar and served the UN during the United States investigation of "subversives" in the UN Secretariat. He committed suicide on 13 November 1952.

The original space for the Legal Library (S-3455) was dedicated to him on 6 October 1953.
