General Assembly resolution 248 (III) of 7 December 1948, sets out the regulations of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund. These replaced earlier provisional measures. The regulations have been amended over the years.

According to its website and the regulations, the Fund is "administered by the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Board, a staff pension committee for each member organization, and a secretariat to the Pension Board and to each staff pension committee."
The Board reports to the General Assembly on its sessions.
The Fund also issues an Annual Report and an annual letter for participants, available in its website.
On several occasions, the Office of Legal Affairs (OLA) was asked to provide legal opinions regarding the status of the Pension Fund. These can be found by searching the United Nations Juridical Yearbook, Chapter VI.
