According to A/C.5/32/17 the United Nations nomenclature provides a rational and understandable system of organizational names, essential to establish certain norms that can be applied throughout the Secretariat.

The United Nations organizational nomenclature is detailed in document A/C.5/32/17 of 3 October 1977 and in ST/SGB/Organization of 8 August 1996.

ST/SGB/2015/3 promulgates the current organizational structure of the United Nations Secretariat.

The document ST/AI/409 provides guidelines on how to prepare an Organizational Manual.

Previous documents on the Organization of the Secretariat are searchable from the United Nations Digital Library.
