The Library is not open to the general public. Everyone with a valid UN Headquarters grounds pass is welcome to come to the Library.
For research requests, contact the Library online: https://www.un.org/en/library/contact-us
The reading room is open Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
We are closed on UN holidays.
Our primary clients are the Permanent Missions of the Member States and the UN Secretariat staff based in New York. We answer questions about the UN from external researchers, however this is not our primary mandate and our ability to do extensive research is limited.
The vast majority of recent documentation is available to everyone electronically. Some of the main resources for documents and information are listed below. Members of the public are invited to visit depository libraries located worldwide if they are in need of documentation in hard copy format.
In addition, you may wish to contact the UN Archives for unpublished records, which are not accessible from the Library.
