Where can I find UN information on world geographical regions?
Last Updated: May 05, 2020
The United Nations Statistics Division's (UNSD) Geographical region and composition web page provides a composition of geographical regions, sub-regions, and selected economic and other groupings.
The list of countries or areas is presented in alphabetical order and combines the UN M.49 standard with the International Standard ISO 3166-1 code - an international standard used for the representation of names of countries and their subdivisions.
Annex 1 of the UN Statistical Yearbook provides a country and area nomenclature, including changes in country and area names.
Terminology Bulletin No. 347/Rev.1: States Members of the United Nations, Members of the Specialized Agencies or Parties to the Statute of the International Court of Justice (ST/CS/SER.F/347/Rev.1 + Corr.1 + Corr.2) provides the names of all Member States of the mentioned organizations in the six official languages of the United Nations. The document also contains an index of two and three letter country codes.
