What is the history of the Disarmament Week?

In resolution S-10/2, para. 102 of 30 June 1978, the General Assembly, during its 10th special session, proclaimed the week starting 24 October, the day of the foundation of the United Nations, as a week devoted to fostering the objectives of disarmament. Resolution 50/72 B of 12 Dec. 1995 invites the Secretary-General to continue to use the United Nations informational organs to promote the objectives of Disarmament Week.

From 1978 to 1995, the First Committee held a Special Meeting in Observance of the Disarmament Week. Meeting records are available for these meetings through the link below.
