Within the UN, discussion about protection of the environment is often related to sustainable development.
The major conferences that have dealt with questions of the environment reflect this.
Sustainable Development Goal 13, "Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts", has the footnote: "Acknowledging that the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is the primary international, intergovernmental forum for negotiating the global response to climate change" (A/RES/70/1).
