Does the UN Library offer financial and other assistance to help set up libraries in developing countries?

The UN Dag Hammarskjöld Library does not offer assistance setting up new libraries. Our mandate is to provide research support to the staff of the United Nations and of the Permanent Missions of Member States.

However; we do have arrangements with 365 depository libraries around the world through the UN Depository Library System. The general public can consult the UN materials deposited at any depository library free of charge.

In addition, the United Nations has made most recent publications and documents available online. You may access these through the following:

  • Official Document System (UN documents)
  • The Library's online catalogue, UNBISnet (UN documents and publications)
  • Websites of UN bodies or entities that publish reports and publications.  For a listing, see our UN Resources Guide.
