In paragraph 1 of its resolution 57/301 the General Assembly decided to amend rule 1 of its rules of procedure to read:

The General Assembly shall meet every year in regular session commencing on the Tuesday of the third week in September, counting from the first week that contains at least one working day.

In paragraph 2 of the same resolution, the Assembly also decided the following, which was added to the rules of procedure of the General Assembly [A/520/Rev.18] as Annex IX:

[...] the general debate in the General Assembly shall open on the Tuesday following the opening of the regular session of the General Assembly and shall be held without interruption over a period of nine working days.

In paragraph 50 of its resolution 75/325, the General Assembly decided to amend rule 1 of the rules of procedure, effective from the opening of the seventy-eighth session:

The General Assembly shall meet every year in regular session commencing on the Tuesday of the second week in September, counting from the first week that contains at least one working day.

The general debate in the General Assembly shall open on the Tuesday of the fourth week in September, counting from the first week that contains at least one working day, and shall be held without interruption over a period of nine working days.
