Who was Dag Hammarskjöld?

Dag Hammarskjöld served as Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1953 to 1961. Hammarskjöld died in 1961, while on official travel. The Library at the United Nations Headquarters, a gift of the Ford Foundation, was dedicated in his honour on 16 November 1961.
